14:30 - 15:10     Sun protection and skin health
Denise Steiner, Clínica Denise Steiner, São Paulo SP

Sun protection is the key to prevent skin damage. UVB radiation harms cellular DNA causing cumulative effects that can cause skin cancer. On the other hand, UVA radiation penetrates the skin more deeply and favors the formation of free radicals that attack the vessels, cells and collagen fibers causing photoaging with sagging, wrinkles and solar elastosis. Today the role of visible light radiation that causes blemishes and worsening of melasma is also discussed. The discussion will be about skin consequences from solar radiation and strategies for the best protection.

15:10 - 15:50     Photoprotection research: current panorama and future perspectives
Fiammetta Nigro, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)

From the basics concepts to the latest research and technologies involving sunscreens, this talk will clarify important aspects of the current panorama and future perspectives on photoprotection.

15:50 - 16:30     Biodiversity in favour of photoprotection
Maria Valéria Robles Velasco, University of São Paulo (USP)

The use of plant products in the extract form and isolated ingredients in cosmetic and cosmeceutical formulations has intensified and many scientific studies have been performed. The objective of using these active components, such as flavonoids and others, alone or in combination with sunscreens, aims to prove the neutralizing action of free radicals and / or photoprotective. Minimizing chemical filters use due to adverse effects and combining the potentialities of Brazilian biodiversity in industrialized and manipulated formulations adds value to the product, besides maintaining photoprotective efficacy with greater safety of use.

16:30 - 17:10     Techniques for incorporating agents into products
Carlos Alberto Trevisan, Carlos & Trevisan Consulting

Among the forms of addition in systems, such as dispersion, solubilization and mixing, will be shown the best mixtures that allow agents incorporation and ensure the best product performance perceived by the consumer.

17:10 - 17:50     Beyond Photoprotection: New Technologies in Formulations and Evaluation Methods for Photoaging Control
Patrícia Maria BG Maia Campos, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Ribeirão Preto-USP, Ribeirão Preto, SP

Sunscreen will be addressed encompassing broad UV / Visible / Infrared protection to prevent and mitigate solar radiation damage. It will also be discussed the development of products containing different active ingredients for the control of skin changes resulting from photoaging, such as changes in skin pigmentation pattern and early wrinkles appearance.

In addition, the importance of developing photoprotective and multifunctional formulations will be presented, in parallel with the development of evaluation methods involving advanced techniques, such as confocal reflectance microscopy, for skin characterization and clinical efficacy evaluation, aiming to obtain even more innovative and proven products.

17:50 - 18:30     Harmonized search sun protection
Arthur João Gradim, AVISA Technical Services in Sanitary Surveillance, Technology and Environment Ltda.

The Sun is the king star, but the intensity of his radiation at different wavelengths varies in various regions of our planet. People with different phototypes, characteristics and varying ages require different levels and forms of protection.

With so many variants, sunscreen for their characteristics, today is made up with a huge range of specific and multifunctional products. However, these products do not have their hormonal regulation, such products being classified as either OTC non-prescription drugs in the United States or as protective cosmetics in the European Union (EU). Both the United States and the EUE are references to the Mercosur regulation, to which Brazil is a signatory and classifies sun protection products as cosmetics.

In this context, by associating the present with what is expected in the near future, I will be presenting a status of the regulation applicable to the filters used, the sun protection products and the evaluation methodologies used in this product group. Perspective is that sun protection, with safety, will be increasingly effective.
